After School Programs - 2025
Spring
Starting on February 24th until May 7th this 10-week program is running every Monday and Wednesday for 2 hours between 5-7:00PM.
Week 3
Week 3 of our 10-week Intro to Rock Climbing program brought a shift in focus as the teens continued to build on their foundational skills. After a strong start to the season, this session zoomed in on footwork—a critical part of climbing that often goes overlooked by beginners.
Our instructors guided the group through drills that emphasized precise foot placement, balance, and efficient movement on the wall. It was great to see everyone slowing down, thinking through their steps, and becoming more intentional with how they moved.
We also introduced hangboarding for the first time in the program. Teens got a hands-on look at how hangboards help climbers build finger strength safely and effectively. While it was new territory for many, the group approached it with curiosity and focus.
The combination of technical drills and new challenges made for a solid session. Everyone walked away a little stronger, a little more confident, and excited for what’s next.
Week 4
Week 4 of our Intro to Rock Climbing program kept the focus on bouldering as the group continued to develop their movement, coordination, and problem-solving on the wall. With a few sessions under their belts, the teens started to move with more intention and confidence.
This week, instructors emphasized refining technique—encouraging climbers to think about body positioning, center of gravity, and how to use holds more efficiently. It wasn’t just about getting to the top, but how they got there. Everyone took the time to slow down, try new approaches, and support one another in working through more challenging routes.
The group dynamic was really starting to click too, with climbers cheering each other on, offering tips, and celebrating small wins. The energy stayed high, and the growth was easy to see—not just in climbing ability, but in confidence and community as well.
We wrapped up the session feeling proud of the progress so far and excited to keep building in the coming weeks.
Week 6
Week 6 marked a big transition in our Intro to Rock Climbing program as we shifted locations to Movement Lincoln Park and dove into rope climbing for the first time this season. It was a fresh environment and a fresh challenge, and the group rose to meet it.
This session focused on the core skills of tying in and belaying—essential techniques for safe rope climbing. Our instructors walked the teens through how to tie a figure-eight follow-through knot, double-check harnesses, and communicate effectively with climbing partners. From there, everyone had the chance to practice belaying and get comfortable managing the ropes.
For many in the group, this was their first experience climbing on ropes, and it was amazing to watch the confidence build as they learned to trust the gear and each other. The switch from bouldering to rope climbing added a new layer of teamwork and responsibility, and the crew handled it with focus and enthusiasm.
Lincoln Park brought a new energy to the program, and we were excited to keep building on these skills in the weeks ahead.
